UPDATE: This Popup plugin is now part of the new ProofMEDIA Marketing Suite plugin (that also includes autoresponder, CRM, and analytics). The operations described below for the independent plugin have not changed.
Welcome to the official user manual for the ProofMEDIA Popup Plugin. This guide will walk you through the process of creating and managing popup modal windows on your website using the WordPress block editor.
About the Plugin Suite: The ProofMEDIA Popup Plugin is part of the ProofMEDIA Professional Plugin Suite designed for self-hosted WordPress websites. For more information and to explore other tools in the suite, please visit https://proofmedia.uk.
⚠️ Important Requirements
1. ProofMEDIA Consent Plugin Required:
The ProofMEDIA Consent Plugin is required for activation. This ensures that visitors to your website are fully informed and understand the use of cookies or tracking mechanisms related to the popups. If the Consent Plugin is not installed and active, the Popup Plugin will not function.
2. Privacy Policy Compliance:
In addition to the Consent Plugin, your website will also require a comprehensive Privacy Policy that complies with GDPR and other relevant privacy regulations. It is essential to declare how you collect, use, and store any data, including data handled by functional cookies.
How to Create a Popup
Creating a popup is simple and utilizes the familiar WordPress Gutenberg block editor.
- Navigate to the Popup Creator: Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard and click on “ProofMEDIA Popup Creator” in the left-hand menu, then click “Add New”.
- Add a Title: Enter a title for your popup (e.g., “Summer Sale Discount”). This is for internal reference.
- Design the Content: Use the WordPress block editor to design the body of your popup. You can add text, images, buttons, or any other standard blocks.
Configuring Popup Settings
While editing your popup, you’ll find a custom settings panel in the right sidebar where you can configure how and when the popup is displayed.
- Active Status: Toggle this to turn the popup on or off. The popup will only display if it is marked as active.
- Start & End Time: Set the exact date and time when the popup should start displaying and when it should automatically stop. Leave these blank to show the popup immediately and indefinitely.
- Link Trigger: Use the link anywhere you like on a post or page in this website so users can open the popup with a click instead of having it auto-open. It also respects the start and end times if you want to limit when it can be opened (eg. “This link will go LIVE on Black Friday”). Ideal for advertising user-activated offers or other announcements.
- Overlay Color: Choose a background color for the overlay that appears behind the popup. You can adjust the transparency (e.g.,
rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.5)). - Cookie Duration (Days): Define how many days should pass before the popup is shown again to a user who has dismissed it. Setting this to
0means the popup will appear on every page load. - Autoclose Timing (Seconds): Specify the number of seconds before the popup automatically closes. Set this if you want a temporary, self-dismissing notification.
Global Settings
You can access the global settings by navigating to Settings > ProofMEDIA Popup. Here, you can configure options such as:
- Delete Data on Uninstall: If checked, all your custom popups and plugin settings will be permanently removed from the database if you uninstall the plugin.
Testing Your Popup
You can preview your popup directly from the editor by clicking the standard WordPress “Preview” button. The popup will render on the frontend exactly as it will appear to your visitors.
