  • What Copywriters Do

Everyone wants to be a copywriter, content writer, writer, business owner, celebrity, millionaire, billionaire, trillionaire, Oprah, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Dalai Lama, Wes Brown, and on and on and on.

But no one wants the problems that come with ALL those wants. They only want the bits that are MARKETED.

All those people who are already business owners, celebrities, millionaires, billionaires, Oprah, Jeff, etc., want copywriters so their marketing can be just as good.

It’s our job as copywriters to do this. To make them look good. To make them stand out in a good way.

    That’s the point.

If they sell more product because of our work, we make them look good. If they get more attention because of our work, we make them look good. If we give them what they want, we look good.

That’s our mission. If you’re a copywriter, make it your mission too.

  • Two Days To Go Before…

    It’s the 29th December 2018.

And so it’s two days to go before… what?

We’ve all got ‘now’, and we all know what to do with it (more of what you like), and we’ve all got tomorrow – but few of us know what to do with that.

Most people have no idea what they want – other than to satisfy a need that needs satisfying.

Most people are brainwashed into thinking that they go to school, get a job, get married, work until they’re 60 ish, retire to somewhere nice and then…

It was a necessary part of the industrial revolution. But just like that revolution, it wasn’t planned, not by the people. Not even by the inventors of mechanisation.

They did it because they could.

With the exception of a very tiny group of people who had a dream and wanted to make it happen, the rest of us really don’t care.

These are the people we, as copywriters, are trying to convert. Can you see the scale of the problem?

Desire is one thing, but action is quite another.

Your task as a business owner for 2019 is to figure that out. What really motivates someone to do something? How can you a) speed it up, b) point them to your product, and c) get them to pay you.

That’s the focus for 2019 in the Science of Copywriting Facebook group I run. All it’s members are looking forward to seeing what we can do over the next 12 months.

PS. You may be thinking it’s a bit early for this message – I mean there’s two days to go isn’t there?

  • From Not Interested to Interested – The Science of Copywriting

The easiest part of selling is turning someone from interested to bought. The hard part is turning someone from uninterested to interested. When your copy achieves that (and you know why) you’ve arrived.

It’s a change of direction on the part of the reader, and marketers have been trying to bottle it for years, but it has to be elusive by its very nature (what value does it have if everyone has it?). And yet some people do. This whole thing has been my pursuit.

And as a copywriter, it has to be your pursuit too. To know what turns people on (from not interested to interested) is your USP. It’s an exceedingly rare skill.

But just imagine if you had it? Every conversation you had would be different. You’d know very quickly the value of it.

Ethics (ie. hard decisions) would become simple because you’d no longer be desperate. There’d be no more surprises.

Just predictable results. And that is why I set up the

    Science of Copywriting Facebook group

    and

    Pro Copy Club

. To explore and expose this most elusive and powerful skill.
